Dr. Kim-Doang Nguyen is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, following M.S. and B.E. degrees from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Prior to joining Florida Tech in August 2022, Dr. Nguyen held academic and research positions at institutions including South Dakota State University, the University of Technology Sydney, and the University of Illinois. His research focuses on robotics, machine learning, control theory, computer vision, and engineering education. He has published extensively on adaptive control systems, motion planning, and AI-driven technologies, with recent work exploring reinforcement learning for partially observable robotic applications and generative AI for droplet analysis and soil mapping. Dr. Nguyen is also active in engineering education research, contributing to studies on data proficiency among engineering undergraduates. His diverse expertise bridges theoretical development and real-world applications in intelligent systems.
